Enda was born and raised in Virginia, County Cavan, where his parents had a family grocery store and farm. He had his first kitchen job in Germany at age 17, as kitchen porter. Later he returned to Ireland and studied English and Sociology at NUI Maynooth. Eventually, he decided to make food his career. Like most chefs, McEvoy travelled wide and far to learn and train, working in Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom before returning to Galway. Here he worked at Nimmo’s Restaurant and Sheridan’s on the Docks before moving to Aniar, where he earned his first Michelin star in 2012. He left Aniar in 2013 to set up Loam with his wife Sinead. Since opening Loam in November, Enda has earned two further Michelin stars (2015 and 2016), as well as being named ‘Best Chef in Ireland’ at the 2016 Irish Restaurant Awards. Enda and Sinead live in Galway with their three children and dog Sam.
